Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a very gentle, non-invasive, profoundly powerful treatment that has its origins in Osteopathy. By using light touch techniques, it works by connecting with the central nervous system and the subtle rhythms within the body that are produced by the the cerebrospinal fluid. By placing my hands gently on your body, I am able to ‘listen’ to these subtle rhythms and I work with the body’s innate healing processes to facilitate the release and re-balancing of tensions held within the body. It is useful in the treatment of both physical and emotional issues as it is a therapy that treats the whole body rather than a symptom or illness. It can be used when there is a problem or issue to be resolved or for general relaxation and well-being. It allows the client to access the innate healing abilities of their body which enables their central nervous system to be more balanced and less triggered allowing them to feel better equipped to cope with daily life.

Due to the gentleness of Craniosacral Therapy, it is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly.

Here are some of the conditions that respond well to Craniosacral Therapy:

  • Stress and anxiety and feelings of overwhelm in both adults and children
  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic fatigue and ME
  • Headaches including migraine
  • Birth trauma and shock for both women and babies
  • Colic and feeding problems in babies
  • Tinnitus
  • TMJ dysfunction and facial pain
  • Insomnia in both adults and children
  • Adrenal fatigue and burnout
  • ADHD and autism symptoms
  • Pain relief
  • Acute injuries
  • Trauma and PTSD

Craniosacral Therapy is not a replacement for medical treatment and can be used alongside conventional treatment.

Bach Flower Remedies

Bach Flower Remedies were discovered by the well-known and pioneering physician, bacteriologist and pathologist Dr Edward Bach, who discovered 38 remedies to help support the emotions we all struggle with at times such as fear, worrying, overwhelm etc.

I use these remedies either as a stand-alone therapy or following Craniosacral Therapy sessions to further support the emotional releases that can occur with the treatments. Their ability to change the emotional well-being and behavioural patterns of my clients over the years have been pretty astounding and I love being able to help people overcome sometimes debilitating emotions that have not responded to other modalities.

It is now well known that there is a strong link between our emotions and our well-being and health and this is also what Dr Bach discovered over 100 years ago. He recognised that 2 people could have the same injury but would recover differently based on their mental and emotional wellbeing and outlook. He spent years researching this pioneering work and discovered 38 plant remedies that could help turn a difficult, negative emotion into a more positive emotion, thereby allowing people to self-heal more quickly.

I trained as a Bach flower remedy practitioner at the Bach Centre in Mount Vernon, Oxfordshire, which is an education centre but also where Dr Bach himself lived.

Following a consultation, I identify the remedies that will help the current emotions you are struggling with i.e overwhelm, exhaustion, burnout, worrying about exams, fear of flying , phobia of dogs, night terrors, panic attacks etc and make you a bespoke remedy which can contain up to 7 remedies. For maximum results, the dosage is 4 drops x 4 times a day in any hot or cold liquid i.e squash, water or tea etc. The remedy bottle will last 3 weeks after which we would ideally have another consultation to see if further remedies are required. This would allow us to reassess what emotions may need further assistance and those that have resolve and are no longer requiring support.

For acute emotions 1 course (3 weeks) may be all that is required but for more chronic emotional issues several courses may be required. Each client is assessed on their individual needs and treated accordingly.

Physiotherapy

With 27 years of clinical experience as a hands-on musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, I can help you reduce pain, increase joint movement and flexibility, release myofascial trigger points and improve muscle strength and function. I treat you holistically and due to my training and qualifications, I am able to combine both conventional physio modalities together with alternative energy medicine if required to get to the root of the problem. This holistic approach produces effective results which together with my desire to share my knowledge with you, will increase your toolkit allowing you to know how to self-manage your condition and prevent re-injury. Following a thorough assessment, we will discuss your goals and create a treatment plan which will enable you to achieve these. If traditional physiotherapy does not achieve the results we were expecting, I then use Craniosacral Therapy to go deeper which is very effective for those conditions that do not respond well to more conventional treatment.

Musculoskeletal problems that Physiotherapy can help:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Sciatica
  • Sprains and strains
  • Repetitive strain injuries i.e. tennis and golfer’s elbow
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Whiplash
  • Postural issues

Treatment modalities I use:

  • Manual therapy – Joint and spinal mobilisations but not manipulation
  • Trigger point acupuncture and acupressure
  • Soft tissue release and massage
  • Therapeutic ultrasound electrotherapy
  • Soft tissue taping
  • Exercise and rehabilitation

I am a member of the HCPC and Physiofirst.

Sound Healing

Sound healing has been used for thousand of years as an ancient healing modality. It has gained popularity in recent years due to its potential healing effects. We all know the powerful effect of listening to different types of music can have on our emotions ie if we are feeling low, we can pop on our favourite song and instantly feel better. Maybe you have experienced the powerful healing potential when you have been to a concert or listened to a choir sing – you will probably have felt it in your body, your hairs may have stood on end and you may have been overcome with emotion. This is because you are being affected by the frequencies of sound. We are all energetic beings made up of electricity, light and sound and can be healed by these natural therapies which can affect deeply.

It has been shown through the study of cymatics that sound has individual frequencies and each note vibrates at a different rate. When a sound is played this produces a soundwave that can penetrates our body which is then absorbed by our tissues, organs, bones and even right down to our cells. All the structures in our body when we are healthy are vibrating at a specific frequency and it has been found that with stress the cells ability to vibrate at their optimum frequency diminishes. This can have a detrimental effect to our health. Sound therapy has been shown to improve the vibrational frequency through resonance effect and this can have a cellular healing effect of physical, emotional and mental issues.

After experiencing the benefits of sound healing, I trained in both individual and group sound healing through an IPHM accredited sound healing course. I use it as stand-alone modality and at times incorporate it into a Craniosacral Therapy session to further enhance the healing effect of the session. It enhances deep relaxation and can promote both physical and emotional wellbeing.
